Attorneys for former President Trump said overnight they will appeal a federal judge's ruling Tuesday that the Treasury Department can disclose Trump's tax returns to the House panel trying for over two years to access them.

The ruling Tuesday stems from a case brought by House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal against the Treasury Department under the Trump administration. The Justice Department under the Biden administration changed its posture in the case. And on Tuesday, District Judge Trevor McFadden, a Trump appointee, granted requests from the department and the House to dismiss the case, according to CNN.

However, McFadden put the opinion on a 14-day hold to give Trump the opportunity to file an appeal.

"This ruling is no surprise," Neal, a Massachusetts Democrat said after the decision. "The law is clearly on the committee's side. I am pleased that we're now one step closer to being able to conduct more thorough oversight of the IRS's mandatory presidential audit program."
