Trump says he talked with China President Xi, following confirmation he wouldn't be at inauguration
Trump said that he and Xi discussed fentanyl, TikTok and trade on the Friday call.
President-elect Donald Trump said Friday he had a "very good" call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, just one day after it was confirmed Xi wouldn't be attending the U.S. presidential inauguration next week.
"I just spoke to Chairman Xi Jinping of China. The call was a very good one for both China and the U.S.A," Trump wrote on TRUTH Social.
He said that they discussed fentanyl, TikTok and trade.
"President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the World more peaceful and safe!" Trump's post concluded.
It was confirmed Thursday that Xi would not be attending Trump's presidential inauguration Monday but would be sending Vice President Han Zheng.
“China follows the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation in viewing and growing its relationship with the United States," China's ministry said.
Xi is also reportedly considering sending Foreign Minister Wang Yi to the inauguration, according to Politico.
