California's Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday invited President-elect Donald Trump to view the fire damage in Los Angeles County, despite an ongoing feud between the two over the fires.

Trump has blamed Newsom for the scale of the series of fires that unexpectedly hit the Los Angeles area this week, and claimed the governor was not doing a good job in response to the fires. However, Trump has appeared optimistic that the pair will work well together when he becomes president later this month.

Newsom urged Trump in the invitation not to politicize the fires, but to come and meet the firefighters who are working around the clock to the battle the blazes. President Joe Biden has already visited California amid the fires.

“As you prepare to assume the presidency once more, I invite you to come to California again – to meet with the Americans affected by these fires, see the devastation firsthand, and join me and others in thanking the heroic firefighters and first responders who are putting their lives on the line,” Newsom wrote in the letter shared on X.

“In the spirit of this great country, we must not politicize human tragedy or spread disinformation from the sidelines," he continued. "Hundreds of thousands of Americans – displaced from their homes and fearful for the future – deserve to see all of us working in their best interests to ensure a fast recovery and rebuild."

Trump has not responded to the invitation at the time of publishing.

The fires, which began on Tuesday, have forced thousands of residents to evacuate. At least 10 people have died in the fires so far, and thousands of structures have also burned.

The largest fire is the Palisades Fire, which has devastated at least 20,000 acres, and is eight percent contained, per the New York Times.
