Donald Trump nominates Sam Brown for Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs at the VA
Brown, who was endorsed by Trump, ran for the Senate in the November elections but narrowly lost to incumbent Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen. His nomination will still need to be confirmed by the Senate.
President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday night nominated former Republican Nevada Senate hopeful Sam Brown for the next Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Brown, who was endorsed by Trump, ran for the Senate in the November elections but narrowly lost to incumbent Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen. His nomination will still need to be confirmed by the Senate.
Trump touted Brown's patriotic devotion as a former Army officer and purple heart recipient, including his leadership in Afghanistan, when announcing the nomination.
"I am pleased to announce that Sam Brown of Nevada will serve as the next Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs at the Department of Veterans Affairs," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. "Sam is an American HERO, a Purple Heart recipient, and successful businessman from Nevada, who has devoted his life to serving America.
"He fearlessly proved his love for our Country in the Army, while leading Troops in battle in Afghanistan and, after being honorably retired as a Captain, helping our Veterans get access to emergency medications," the statement continued. "Sam will now continue his service to our Great Nation at the VA, where he will work tirelessly to ensure we put America’s Veterans FIRST, and remember ALL who served."
Brown thanked Trump in a post on X, stating that he was looking forward to working with Trump's nominee for Veteran Affairs Secretary Doug Collins, in the next term.
"Thank you, President [Donald Trump] for your leadership and trust. I am grateful and accept this opportunity to put Duty First and continue my service to America," Brown said in the post.
"I look forward to working with incoming Secretary [Doug Collins], a true servant leader, to improve the VA and ensure all who have served are honored with the dignity they have earned. To my fellow veterans: I’ve got you," he added.
The Senate is expected to begin its confirmation hearings for Trump's nominees as early as next week.
