Former Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer on Monday said the Biden administration's policies toward Iran increase the likelihood that Israel will need to act alone to stop Tehran's nuclear program.

Appearing on the John Solomon Reports podcast, Dermer said he did not think President Biden was trying to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons. "I do not believe the policy of the Biden administration is to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran," he lamented. "I think it is to contain a nuclear armed Iran."

Biden has sought to reenter the Iran nuclear deal, from which President Donald Trump withdrew after President Barack Obama negotiated it in 2015. Dermer criticized the deal and the Biden effort to reenter it, asserting that the conditions it imposed on the Iranian regime leave its nuclear infrastructure intact and only postpone Tehran's acquisition of nuclear warheads.

"It's having the the infrastructure, the nuclear infrastructure, which is why the deal was so bad, because it leaves them with the nuclear infrastructure, doesn't remove it," he said.

"You're trying to do everything you can," Dermer continued, "but at the end of the day, you only have two choices: Either Iran gets nuclear weapons, or you take military action to stop them."

The diplomat went on to outline two prior instances in which Israel thwarted its adversaries' nuclear ambitions, striking nuclear facilities in Saddam Hussein's Iraq and Bashar al-Assad's Syria.

"Israel has taken out two nuclear programs, and it's Israel 2, the rest of the world 0," he said. "And unfortunately, I don't see that the United States is going to take care of this situation in Iran for us, so it comes down to really one of two choices: Either we're going to have to take action, or the people of Iran are going to rise up and throw out this regime that they despise. And we should be preparing for both scenarios."
