Amazon CEO requires return to office for 5 days per week starting next year, employees criticize
‘I’d rather go back to school than work in an office again,' said one employee, according to a Forbes report
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced a requirement for employees to return to the office for five days per week and employees are criticizing the decision.
"We understand that some of our teammates may have set up their personal lives in such a way that returning to the office consistently five days per week will require some adjustments," he wrote in the announcement to workers on Monday.
"To help ensure a smooth transition, we’re going to make this new expectation active on January 2, 2025. Global Real Estate and Facilities (GREF) is working on a plan to accommodate desk arrangements mentioned above and will communicate the details as they are finalized," he added.
Company employees are bashing the decision.
"I’d rather go back to school than work in an office again," said one employee, according to Forbes.
Former and current employees are pushing back against the move anonymously in a Reddit thread.
"I am grateful I got out before all of Jassy's RTO nonsense kicked in," said a former employee.
"I kept telling people not to accept hybrid. Hybrid was just a compromise that allowed the bosses to claim the most productive environment is still in the office but they allowed us 'flexibility' for our own sake," wrote another Reddit user in the Amazon thread.
