Crowds gathered in Los Angeles for the fifth game of the World Series turned rowdy and engaged in illegal activity on Wednesday night, after the LA Dodgers officially won the title, resulting in at least a dozen arrests.

The Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees during one of the biggest World Series in decades. The match-up was particularly notable because it featured two of Major League Baseball's most prominent and historic teams.

The West Coast crowd on Wednesday night set a city bus on fire, broke into stores, and set off fireworks. Some celebratory members also threw objects at police in downtown LA after the officers told the crowd to disperse. No injuries were reported, according to the Associated Press.

"The overwhelming majority of celebrations last night were joyful and peaceful,” Mayor Karen Bass said at a Thursday news conference. “We will work to keep Angelenos safe as always ... [and] violence of any kind will not be tolerated.”

The city celebrations are expected to continue this week, including with a victory parade on Friday, followed by a celebration at Dodgers stadium. The Los Angeles Police Department will be on high alert for the remainder of the week, and next week for the presidential election.

LAPD officials encouraged partiers not to set off illegal fireworks in their celebrations, or take over city intersections this weekend. City officials also urged fans who are not attending Friday's events to work remotely that day because of the high traffic from the parade and celebration.
