President Donald Trump on Friday told reporters that he does not believe his staff gave any kind of tips about his tariff plans to Wall Street before they were announced, as some Republicans face accusations of insider trading.

The president imposed major tariffs against all U.S. trading partners earlier this month, but froze the heaviest tariffs amid a rocky week in the stock market. Some economists who were initially wary of the plan, have since expressed support for Trump and the tariffs.

Some conservative outlets have reported that Trump administration officials gave an early heads-up to Wall Street executives regarding the tariffs and subsequent trade deals, including about a potential trade deal with India, per Fox Business.

Trump did not explicitly state that his team did not leak information to Wall Street, claiming he could only speak for himself, but that he could not imagine anyone on his staff giving people a heads-up, The Hill reported.

“I can commit to myself, that’s all I can commit,” Trump said on Air Force One while flying to Rome. “You know, I have thousands of people that work for me, but I can’t imagine anybody doing that. I have very honorable people, that I can say. So I can’t even imagine it. I haven’t even heard that, actually.”

Democratic Sens. Ruben Gallego of Arizona and Adam Schiff of California have called for the Office of Government Ethics to investigate the allegations, while House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries promised House Democrats will lead their own investigation.
