Slovenian officials confirm removing damaged statue of first lady Melania Trump near her home town
The statue was damage in a July 5 fire that appears to have been intentionally set
A statue of first lady Melania Trump near her hometown in Slovenia has been removed after having been set on fire earlier this month.
The statue, near Sevnica, in central Slovenia, was set afire July 5, Slovenian Police told CNN on Thursday. It reportedly had been removed the same day it was damaged.
The statue was commissioned by Brad Downey as part of a project that reportedly includes a short documentary.
The offbeat statue by conceptual artist Ales 'Maxi' Zupevc has gotten mixed reviews since it was erected in July 2019.
Downey has filed a police report but said he doesn’t want to press charges.
"I would be curious to see who did it," he told CNN. "Someone doesn't like what it represents or how it looks," said Downey.
Slovenian Police is considering the attack on the statue a criminal offense.
