First lady Melania Trump announces Rose Garden renovation
First lady has consulted with a landscape architect, employing the theme of openness
First lady Melania Trump will renovate the White House Rose Garden, which has now become President Trump's go-to place to connecting with Americans.
The renovation will reportedly include upgraded electrical rigging for television appearances and new walkway and a new floral scheme.
"Our country has seen difficult times before, but the White House and the Rose Garden have always stood as a symbol of our strength, resilience and continuity," the first lady said.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the president has increased his utilization of the Rose Garden as a location from which to address the press and the American people, often despite intense D.C. summer heat.
The first lady's initiative will be supported by the National Parks Service, but funded via private donations, will take three weeks to complete, according to an administration official.
