Veteran CBS journalist Scott Pelley on Sunday night rebuked owners Paramount following the recent resignation of a producer, and coworker, on the network's "60 Minutes" news show.

Executive producer Bill Ownes resigned earlier this month.

“Paramount began to supervise our content in new ways," Pelley said at the end of the show Sunday. "None of our stories has been blocked, but Bill felt he lost the independence that honest journalism requires.”

In a memo obtained by The New York Times, Owens told staffers that he was resigning because he believed he could no longer run the program as he saw fit.
