Trump yanks security detail from Fauci
The National Institutes of Health had funded protection for the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
President Donald Trump has stripped Dr. Anthony Fauci of his security detail.
"You can't have a security detail for the rest of your life because you worked for the government," Trump said at a press conference on Friday.
The National Institutes of Health had funded protection for the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), though he has since hired private security in the wake of the Thursday termination of his government protection.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fauci has become a fixture of conservative frustrations, with many alleging he helped to hide the origins of the virus and imposed baseless pandemic guidelines.
Trump's removal of Fauci's security came after he did the same to former National Security Advisor John Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
"Fauci made a lot of money, they all did," he added.
