The Trump administration on Wednesday designated several Mexican drug cartels and the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua as foreign terrorist organizations.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed the designation, which opens the cartels up for financial sanctions.

The Mexican cartels that now bear the designation are: Cartel de Sinaloa, Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación, Carteles Unidos, Cartel del Noreste, Cartel del Golfo, and La Nueva Familia Michoacana.

The international gang Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) is also now a foreign terrorist organization.
