Marine officer who blasted bungled Afghan withdrawal is discharged from service

A Marine officer who created a national stir by criticizing the bungled Afghan withdrawal says he has been discharged from the military service.

Former Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller Jr. announced on Facebook his departure from the Marines about four months after his videotaped criticism went viral on social media.

"I was released from the Marine Corps today, Thursday, December 23rd, 2021. I am filled with mixed emotions,” Scheller write. “I would like to sincerely thank the Marine Corps for forging me into a man.”

”And from the bottom of my heart, I’d like to thank all the Marines who served, led, bled, and suffered alongside me the past 17 years."

Scheller said he received a general discharge under honorable conditions, which is lower than an honorable discharge.

Scheller said he is preparing a media tour, starting with Fox News’s Tucker Carlson on Jan. 4.
