Secret Service fired at suspects attempting to open car doors near Janet Yellen's house
"There's no indication this was directed at the Secret Service or any protectee, and there are no reported injuries," Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said.
Secret Service agents fired shots Tuesday morning at suspects who were allegedly trying to break into cars near Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's house.
Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said, at around 1:30 a.m., that multiple people were attempting to open car doors along the street in the 2900 block of Stephenson Place NW in Washington, D.C.
"There's no indication this was directed at the Secret Service or any protectee, and there are no reported injuries," Guglielmi said. "A search for the offenders is underway."
Yellen lives near the address where the incident occurred, according to The Hill.
“As the sedan approached the agent, a confrontation occurred between the agent and the car’s occupants,” Guglielmi stated. “The agent discharged their service weapon, but there is currently no evidence to indicate anyone was struck.”
The Secret Service said that the incident is currently under investigation.
