Wildfires break out in western North Carolina near towns harmed by Hurricane Helene
As of now, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Wildfires broke out in western North Carolina this week near towns that were heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Two fires broke out Wednesday afternoon just north of Marion, North Carolina, according to the New York Post.
As of now, firefighters are on the scene, and no evacuations have occurred yet. It is unclear how the fires started, but the North Carolina Forest Service warned that gusty winds and low humidity could increase the spread of the fire.
Another fire broke out Thursday in McDowell County and has burned an estimated 250 acres, according to local media.
McDowell County Emergency Management said that the fire was caused by a tree falling on a power line and emergency crews have been working to contain the fire.
"Winds diminished and relative humidity increased leading to lower fire activity," officials said, CBS News reports. "Emergency personnel will continue to remain on-site throughout the day to monitor the situation and ensure further containment of the fire."
As of now, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
