NY Gov Hochul meets with NYC officials, leaders to discuss Mayor Adams's future amid DOJ fallout
Hochul says the goal of the meeting is to make sure the city has "stability."
New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul is having a meeting with "key leaders" Tuesday to discuss the future of New York City Mayor Eric Adams amid the Justice Department's push to have federal charges against him dropped.
The focus of the meeting will be to discuss a "path forward" for Adams, who purportedly cut a deal with President Trump to work with him enforcing immigration laws in the city.
Hochul says the goal of the meeting is to make sure the city has "stability," amid calls for his resignation and several Adams administration deputies resigning over the weekend, according to The Hill newspaper.
The leaders that Hochul is meeting with include Reverend Al Sharpton, City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and Comptroller Brad Lander, a source told The Detroit News outlet.
This meeting comes after multiple staffers resigned from Adams' office as many of them were subject to FBI search warrants due to the ongoing investigation.
Adams was charged with federal bribery, conspiracy, and campaign finance offenses in September, but pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The DOJ formally requested last week the corruption charges be dropped.
President Donald Trump said last year that Justice Department prosecutors under then President Joe Biden were "dirty players" and that he would consider pardoning Adams.
