The State Department has ordered its employees to report on displays of "anti-Christian bias" within the agency, Politico reported, citing a memo attributed to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Rubio is a Roman Catholic, a religious denomination that has often found itself on the outs with Democratic administrations in recent years, most notably over abortion issues, but also due to federal surveillance of its churches.

“Although the E.O. focuses on anti-Christian bias, targeting anyone for their religious beliefs is discriminatory and is contrary to the Constitution," the memo read. It further pointed to an April 22 meeting of a task force to survey the issue in the agency.

During the campaign, Trump formed the "Catholics for Trump" coalition, highlighting the importance of ensuring religious freedom.
