The top spokesperson for the Health and Human Services department on Monday unexpectedly announced his resignation from the department, after he reportedly clashed with HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. amid a deadly measles outbreak.

Tom Corry, who joined the department as its assistant secretary for public affairs two weeks ago, did not give a reason for the departure, but it comes after he fought with Kennedy and his principal deputy chief of staff, Stefanie Spear, over their management of the department, according to Politico.

Corry said on LinkedIn that he tendered his resignation on Friday, which was effective immediately.

“I want to announce to my friends and colleagues that last Friday I announced my resignation effective immediately,” he wrote in a post. “To my colleagues at HHS, I wish you the best and great success.”

Sources told Politico that the departure was because of his disagreement with Kennedy on handling certain health issues, including the measles outbreak in Texas that has infected at least 146 people. One person has died from the outbreak.

Kennedy on Sunday urged parents to speak with their doctors about the measles vaccine, but he claimed the vaccine was protective to children and the broader community.

“Parents play a pivotal role in safeguarding their children’s health,” he wrote in the Fox News op-ed. “All parents should consult with their healthcare providers to understand their options to get the [measles, mumps, rubella] vaccine. The decision to vaccinate is a personal one.”
