HHS offers $25,000 buyout option to about 80,000 workers
The mass email was reportedly sent across HHS, which includes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration.
The Health and Human Services Department emailed a $25,000 buyout offer over the weekend to about 80,000 employees as part of the Trump administration's effort to downsize the federal government with the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
According to the Associated Press, the federal workers who received the offer via a mass email are "responsible for researching diseases, inspecting food and administering Medicare and Medicaid."
The outlet reported that the mass email was sent across HHS, which includes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration.
Federal employees are not able to officially take the offer until Monday and the deadline to response is 5 p.m. on Friday.
