The Supreme Court will hear arguments Wednesday on a Texas law that requires age verification to view pornographic websites.
Opponents of the law are represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) – in the Free Speech Coalition et al. v. Paxton case.
Opponents of the law argue it violates free speech for adults, who also must verify their age, according to NPR.
Court filings state that the law "imposes significant burdens on adults' access to constitutionally protected expression."
Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott signed the bill into law in 2023. As a result, Pornhub disabled its website for users in the state.
Last year, Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the parent company of Pornhub, arguing that it had violated the legislation.
