Rudy Giuliani makes first payment in $148 million judgment for Georgia election workers
Giuliani was ordered to turn over multiple luxury items to the employees Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, including his Manhattan apartment, several watches, his Mercedes Benz and a ring.
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Friday made the first payment in his $148 million defamation judgment to two Georgia election workers, including by turning over his Mercedes Benz.
Giuliani was ordered to turn over multiple luxury items to the employees Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, including his Manhattan apartment, several watches, and a ring. It comes after a jury ordered Giuliani to pay almost $150 million in damages for defaming Freeman and Moss during the 2020 election.
The former mayor has now turned over the watches, ring, and the car, but is fighting to hold onto other items, Politico reported.
One attorney for Giuliani said the former New York City official also cannot turn over access to a storage facility because a court-imposed restraining order is preventing him from complying. Other items that are exempt is his Joe DiMaggio jersey because of a law that protects “all wearing apparel.”
The payment comes after two lawyers requested to be removed from Giuliani's case earlier this week, because of disagreements with their client.
