New Mexico DA officially charges Alec Baldwin with manslaughter over 'Rust' shooting
Baldwin previously settled with Hutchins' family and has moved to complete production of the film.
Authorities officially pressed manslaughter charges against actor Alec Baldwin over the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins while on the set for the film "Rust."
Hutchins sustained a fatal gunshot wound on Oct. 21, 2021, when Baldwin fired a loaded gun. Film armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is also facing charges in the incident.
Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed each face felony counts of involuntary manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter in the commission of a lawful act, the New York Post reported. Neither will be arrested in connection with the charges.
The Tuesday filing merely represents the formal follow through of First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies's promise to file such charges, which she made earlier this month. Baldwin's lawyers have decried the charges as a "miscarriage of justice."
Baldwin previously settled with Hutchins' family and has moved to complete production of the film. Hutchins' widower, Matthew Hutchins, will receive an executive producer credit and has blessed the film's completion.
