Judge denies Sean 'Diddy' Combs' latest bail request ahead of the holidays

A judge overseeing Sean "Diddy" Combs' criminal case on Wednesday rejected the rapper's request to be released ahead of the holidays, stating there was no way to ensure the safety of the public if he's out on bail.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern District of New York has charged Combs with racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution, after he was arrested in Manhattan in September. 

Judge Aran Subramanian said Combs would need to stay in federal custody ahead of his May 2025 trial, rejecting the music mogul's latest attempt to be released on bail. If he was granted bail, he would have been under house arrest.

"The Court finds that the government has shown by clear and convincing evidence that no condition or combination of conditions will reasonably assure the safety of the community," Subramanian wrote in his ruling, per CBS News. 

"There is compelling evidence of Combs's propensity for violence," he continued, adding that if Combs was released, "there is evidence supporting a serious risk of witness tampering."

Combs' lawyers had requested that their client be released, and outlined a plan for his lodging before trial. The attorneys said Combs would live in an apartment in Manhattan with armed security guarding him 24/7, and he would only be allowed to call his attorneys and receive visitation from pre-approved family members, according to NBC News.

Prosecutors have claimed that letting Combs out would be detrimental to the case, because he could engage in witness tampering or try to taint potential jurors through a public relations campaign.
