Jan. 6 rioter who sprayed Capitol cop with pepper spray gets 7 years in prison
Police officer died due to stroke after confrontation.
The Capitol rioter who on Jan. 6, 2021 sprayed Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick with pepper spray received on Friday a seven-year sentence in prison for that offense.
Julian Khater had earlier pleaded guilty to deploying the chemical agent against Sicknick. The officer died the following day due to multiple strokes.
Sicknick’s death ultimately appeared unrelated to his encounters with the violent rioters, though the D.C. Medical Examiner’s office cryptically claimed following Sicknick’s autopsy that “all that transpired [on Jan. 6] played a role in his condition.”
Khater, meanwhile, expressed remorse over his role in the riot.
“What happened on Jan. 6 — there’s no words for it,” he said during the court hearing. “It’s unfortunate, and I wish I could take it all back.”
