Fox, Dominion case settled by 11th-hour negotiator, cable network denies account on why deal reached

Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems reached an 11th-hour settlement, preventing the defamation case from going to trial Tuesday with the help of Jerry Roscoe, of the Washington-based JAMS mediation service.

Attorneys for both sides reportedly contacted Roscoe late Sunday while he and his wife were a cruise between Budapest and Bucharest.

He agreed to take on the case and after the judge delayed the trial by a day, he spent much of Monday reading the evidence before bringing the two parties to a $787 million settlement, the Associated Press reported Thursday.  

Fox's attorneys were reportedly pushed to settle due to the possibility of testimony from former producer Abby Grossberg, who filed a lawsuit last month against the network for allegedly coercing her testimony and setting her up to take the blame in the case, according to Yahoo News.

Fox News spokeswoman Irena Briganti has denied that account about how that case was settled, saying it is "wildly inaccurate" and "completely false."
