Following decision to not endorse presidential candidate, WaPo loses 250,000 subscribers
The canceled subscriptions amount to about 10% of the newspaper's digital readership.
After declining to endorse a presidential candidate for the upcoming election, The Washington Post has lost roughly 250,000 subscribers, the newspaper reports.
Post owner Jeff Bezos explained the decision in an op-ed on Monday, saying that trust in media has substantially declined, citing Gallup poll figures showing Americans trust media less than Congress. The perception that the media are biased and unreliable, Bezos wrote, must be addressed.
The Post reported Tuesday that 250,000 subscribers, about 10% of its digital readership, had canceled their subscriptions.
The Los Angeles Time and USA have also decided not to endorse a presidential candidate this election cycle.
