Ex-police officer convicted in shooting death of Minnesota motorist to be released from prison

Former Minnesota police officer Kim Potter who was convicted of manslaughter for fatally shooting motorist Daunte Wright in a 2021 traffic stop will be released next week from prison, according to records.
Potter served 16 months in the women's-only Shakopee Minnesota Correctional Facility and will serve eight more months on supervised release, according to Fox News.
During a deadly confrontation on April 11, 2021, Potter accidentally mistook her firearm for a stun gun during the traffic stop after pulling over 20-year-old Daunte Wright for expired license tags in the city of Brooklyn Center.
Body cam footage shows Potter yelling "I'll tase you! Taser! Taser! Taser!" before firing a single round.
She then can be heard yelling "I grabbed the wrong f---ing gun," right before collapsing on the curb.
During the sentencing, Potter apologized directly to Wright's family.
"To the family of Daunte Wright, I am so sorry that I brought the death of your son, father, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew," she told them during the trial.
