Federal prosecutors move to dismiss Special Counsel Jack Smith's appeal in Trump documents case
The court agreed in November of 2024 to drop the classified documents case.
Federal prosecutors in Florida moved to dismiss Special Counsel Jack Smith's appeal, a move that moves the process a step closer to ending the classified documents case against President Donald Trump.
The motion still has to be approved by the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, according to The Hill newspaper.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Florida assigned a new attorney to the case after it was ruled by District Judge Aileen Cannon that Smith had been unlawfully appointed.
In 2022, Smith brought a case accusing Trump of improperly taking classified documents back to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
The court agreed in November of 2024 to drop the classified documents case.
Judge Cannon dismissed the case.
