A federal grand jury has subpoenaed former White House counsel Pat Cipollone as a part of the Justice Department's reported investigations into the 2020 elections and the Jan. 6 riot.
Cipollone and his attorneys are reportedly discussing the circumstances of the attorney's appearance before the grand jury and the effect executive privilege could have on his testimony.
The subpoena issued Tuesday signals that that federal prosecutors' investigations is ramping up. Investigators spoke with the staff of former Vice President Mike Pence and now appear to focusing on former President Trump’s staffers.
Cipollone was in the West Wing with Trump during the riot and has gone on the record to say that the former president's response came too late.
"I was pretty clear there needed to be an immediate and forceful response, statement, public statement, that people need to leave the Capitol now," Cipollone told the Democrat-led House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riot.
