Senators suggest Biden plan's stimulus payments would go to some who don't need the cash

Some senators have reportedly taken issue with the proposed stimulus payments in President Biden's $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief plan, suggesting that some of the money would go to people who do not need it.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins, during a conference call on Sunday that included White House officials and a bipartisan group of senators, pressed officials regarding why families earning $300,000 would be eligible and called for targeting low-income workers, according to Politico.

"I was the first to raise that issue, but there seemed to be a lot of agreement … that those payments need to be more targeted," Collins said in an interview, according to Politico. "I would say that it was not clear to me how the administration came up with its $1.9 trillion figure for the package."
