In interview with Piers Morgan, Rep. Santos admits: 'I've been a terrible liar'
"I made mistakes," congressman says.
New York Rep. George Santos this week bluntly admitted to having spread several falsehoods about his own career, arguing at the same time that the did not do so in order to mislead U.S. voters while seeking office.
The congressman, who has faced withering criticism for a series of untrue claims about his life and business career, made the admission during an interview with Piers Morgan. "Part of your cathartic process of redemption has got to start from ‘I’ve been a terrible liar,’” Morgan said during the interview.
"Sure, I’ve been a terrible liar on those subjects," Santos admitted. But, he added, "I made mistakes of allowing the pressures of what I thought needed to be done. This wasn't about tricking anybody."
The false claims, Santos argued, were rather about "getting accepted by [the Republican party]."
Among the falsehoods apparently told by Santos include details surrounding his education, his employment on Wall Street, and claims that his mother worked in the World Trade Center at the time of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
