Kennedy to meet with Senate Democrats on health committees next week
Kennedy is expected to meet with Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP) Ranking Member Bernie Sanders, and committee member Ed Markey next week.
Health and Human Services Secretary nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will meet with several Senate Democrats who sit on key Health committees next week, to make his case for why he should be confirmed to the Cabinet position.
President-elect Donald Trump nominated Kennedy for HHS secretary last year, but he has received some pushback from Republicans skeptical of his anti-vaccine stance. Kennedy can only afford to lose three Republican votes if all Democrats oppose his nomination.
Kennedy is expected to meet with Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP) Ranking Member Bernie Sanders, and committee member Ed Markey next week, Politico reported. Sanders also sits on the Senate Finance Committee that would vote on Kennedy's confirmation.
The nominee will also meet with Senate Finance Democrats Michael Bennet of Colorado, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Catherine Cortez-Mastro of Nevada, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, and Mark Warner of Virginia.
Kennedy is also expected to meet with Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman next week.
The former presidential contender has already met with Senate Republicans, but will continue to meet key GOP players needed for his confirmation this week.
The Finance Committee's confirmation hearing on Kennedy is expected to take place in the weeks ahead.
