House Republicans demand documentation of Buttigieg’s response to Ohio train disaster

House Republicans on Friday demanded Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg surrender documentation detailing his department’s response to the ongoing Ohio trail derailment catastrophe.

The letter, signed by nearly two dozen House Republicans, demands a large number of documents from Buttigieg, including information on “when [Buttigieg] learned about the train derailment in East Palestine.” 

The secretary has been criticized for what some have called a slow response time to the tragedy. In the letter the GOP representatives claimed DOT leadership have exhibited “apathy in the face of this emergency.”

Buttigieg, the letter claims, has “attempted to blame others for infrastructure that is within DOT’s ambit of responsibilities,” with the writers calling themselves “deeply concerned by DOT’s slow pace in resolving this matter.”

The writers demand the documentation from Buttigieg no later than Mar. 10.
