House Freedom Caucus tries to censure Dem congressman removed from Trump's congressional address
Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green was removed from President Donald Trump's address to Congress Tuesday night after interrupt the president and refusing to stop talking.
Members of the House Freedom Caucus are planning to introduce a resolution to censure Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green who was removed from President Donald Trump's address to Congress Tuesday night.
Green disrupted Trump's speech and said the president had "no mandate."
The outburst resulted in House Speaker Mike Johnson first asking Green to quiet down before ordering the chamber's sergeant at arms to remove him from the lower chamber's floor.
Democrats largely disagree with Trump's argument that he won reelection so overwhelming that he has a mandate to carry out his course of action – which has included efforts toward the mass deportation of illegal migrants and substantial cuts to federal agencies.
"The House Freedom Caucus will be introducing a censure resolution against Rep. Al Green today," the caucus wrote on the social media platform, X on Wednesday.
The caucus is part of the chamber's most conservative wing.
Rep. Eli Crane, R-Arizona, is expected to lead the resolution to censure Green, according to The Hill newspaper.
