The Department of Government Efficiency run by Elon Musk is expected to get access to taxpayer data at the Internal Revenue Service, according to multiple reports.

A source told CNN that a software employee working under DOGE named Gavin Kliger will be getting access to the system “imminently."

Kliger will be at the IRS for at least 120 days, but as of now hasn't been given approval yet to go.

“Waste, fraud, and abuse have been deeply entrenched in our broken system for far too long," White House deputy press secretary Harrison Fields told CNN. "It takes direct access to the system to identify and fix it. DOGE will continue to shine a light on the fraud they uncover as the American people deserve to know what their government has been spending their hard earned tax dollars on.”

Kliger will have access to the Integrated Data Retrieval System, which contains sensitive financial data from a lot of Americans.

Authorized employees at the department are allowed to access the data, but only if it is for a specific job.
