The Navy continued its search Monday for a sailor missing from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, on patrol in the Arabian Sea.

The “man overboard” search began Sunday evening after crew members couldn’t find the sailor aboard the nuclear-powered carrier, a Navy spokesperson said.

The ship carries roughly 5,000 sailors and marines and is part of the Navy's Bahrain-based 5th Fleet. Other ships in the fleet have joined in the search.

The Nimitz has been deployed in the Arabian Sea since July.
