Special counsel Jack Smith: DOJ will seek ‘speedy trial’ for Trump indictment

During a televised briefing from the Justice Department Tuesday, special counsel Jack Smith announced the Justice Department will seek a “speedy trial” for former President Donald Trump over charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. “In the meantime, I must emphasize that the indictment is only an allegation, and that the defendant must be presumed innocent until proven guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt, in a court of law,” said Smith.
