Sec. Mayorkas warns of border migration surge as Title 42 deadline approaches

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the White House is anticipating a surge in illegal border crossing as a Covid-era border restriction comes to an end May 11. Since March 2020, border officials have used Title 42 to quickly deny immigrants entry at the southern border. “We do expect that encounters at our southern border will increase as smugglers are seeking to take advantage of this change and already are hard at work spreading disinformation that the border will be open after that…Let me be clear.
