Protesters gather outside Netflix offices in LA as actors union joins striking writers

Protesters gathered outside Netflix offices in Los Angeles, California, on July 13, as the actors union announced the start of a strike. The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) announced its members would be on strike as of 12:01 am Friday, July 14, after failing to reach agreements with major Hollywood studios and streaming services. SAG-AFTRA joins members of the Writers Guild of America, who have been on strike for more than two months. Actors were prepared to picket on Friday, according to local Los Angeles media. While on strike, actors cannot audition for roles, work acting gigs, or promote any finished projects, according to the announcement. The strike comes as movies like Barbie and Oppenheimer receive global press attention, and just after Emmy nominations were announced. Credit: Iqbal Theba via Storyful
