Harlem bar celebrates exonerated Central Park Five defendant for win in NYC Council Primary

Dr. Yusef Abdus Salaam, one of the “Central Park Five” defendants who was wrongfully convicted of a violent 1989 gang rape in New York City and imprisoned for seven years, was greeted with cheers Tuesday night at Harlem Tavern for winning the Democratic primary for Harlem’s seat on the New York City Council. With no experience in politics, Salaam took an early lead in the polls with almost twice the number of votes as his nearest competitor.
