Biden establishes new national park near Grand Canyon in move to block uranium mining
President Joe Biden announced the designation of a new national monument in the surrounding lands of the Grand Canyon National Park during a press conference Tuesday at Arizona’s Red Butte Airfield. Biden praised the new park, officially named the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument, as a benefit for Arizona and the “soul of the nation.” The new national park encompasses nearly 1 million acres of land and effectively bars uranium mining in the region.
