White House trolls detractors with 'Closing Time' deportations video
The 17 second clip begins by showing a deportee in handcuffs and body restraints being loaded onto a plan, along with several others.
The White House on Monday debuted a video showing the deportation of heavily tattooed gang members to the sound of "Closing Time" by Semisonic.
The 17 second clip begins by showing a deportee in handcuffs and body restraints being loaded onto a plan, along with several others. "Closing time. You don't have to go home by you can't stay here," blasts the 1998 hit. "I know who I want to take me home."
The video comes after the administration invoked the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to deport gang members belonging to Tren de Aragua, leading to a legal showdown with a U.S. District Judge who ordered the return of outbound deportation flights. The administration did not reroute the flights.
The matter is likely to face protracted legal proceedings and could reach the Supreme Court. In the meantime, many of the deported individuals will be housed at a prison facility in El Salvador.
