Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance on Wednesday knocked Vice President Kamala Harris over what he saw as her "scolding people" for having a sense of humor about the campaign.

Harris has made "joy" a central fixture of her campaign, ostensibly in contrast to the Republicans behind former President Donald Trump. But Vance has suggested that such a theme had vanished as Republican prospects grew brighter.

"The joy is gone from the Kamala Harris campaign," he said at an event in Las Vegas, Nevada. "She was scolding people for thinking that Donald Trump is funny, but she really was. She was like, 'how can you how can you dare have a sense of humor about American politics?' It's one of the things I love about my running mate, is he does have a sense of humor. "

"So if it looks like we're having fun in the Trump campaign, and it looks like the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz campaign is a little bit sad, I think it's because they're terrified of having to continue to explain their record to the American people over the next 13 days," he went on.

"He went on to liken her to a "vice principal who had just called you into the office because, you know, you were having too much fun at school."
