United Auto Workers union endorses Biden: He's 'earned it'

The United Auto Workers union on Wednesday endorsed President Joe Biden's 2024 reelection bid during its conference in Washington, D.C.

The UAW conducted a major strike in 2023, staging walkouts at heavyweight automakers such as Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis (Chrysler) seeking, and mostly securing, substantive pay increases, among other benefits. The labor dispute saw President Joe Biden join strikers on the picket line and express support for their efforts.

"This choice is clear: Joe Biden bet on the American worker while Donald Trump blamed the American worker. If our endorsements must be earned, Joe Biden has earned it," said UAW President Shawn Fain, according to Politico.

Former President Donald Trump, for his part, had urged auto workers to resist the Biden administration's electric vehicles push, warning it would spell the end of the domestic industry.

The UAW endorsement could prove a boon to Biden's reelection hopes as Trump moves to capitalize on manufacturing worker frustrations, particularly in battleground Michigan.
