Lake narrowly leads Gallego in Arizona Senate race: poll

Arizona Republican GOP Sen. Kari Lake holds a narrow lead over Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego to represent the Grand Canyon State in the upper chamber of Congress, a recent poll has revealed.

Lake emerged with 46% support among registered voters in Wednesday survey from the Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling, while Gallego claimed 45%. A further 10% were undecided, The Hill reported.

Complicating matters is the potential inclusion of incumbent independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who previously won election as a Democrat before leaving the party and who has not announced her reelection plans.

Should she enter the race, however, 17% of voters would back her, compared to 36% who preferred Gallego, 35% who backed Lake, and 12% who were undecided.

While neither Lake nor Gallego have become their parties' official nominees, they remain the clear frontrunners for the posts. A conservative firebrand, Lake previously ran for the governorship in 2022, but narrowly lost to then-Secretary of State Katie Hobbs. In the wake of that defeat, she challenged the election results, claiming fraud, and has remained in the spotlight as a conservative firebrand.

Conducted Jan. 5-6, the survey questioned 590 registered voters as has a margin of error of +/- 4%, suggesting that the race, regardless of Sinema's participation, is effectively a tossup.
