GOP Rep. Steube files bill to end funding for UNRWA, says US shouldn't fund terrorism
"I think we need to stand for the American people and stand for the safety and security of the American people," Steube said.
Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., filed legislation to stop the funding of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) following allegations that multiple employees of the agency helped carry out the Oct. 7 terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel.
"There's been reports where over 100 Hamas terrorists were trained by the UNRWA," Steube said on the Tuesday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "Why in the world are Americans sending their taxpayer dollars to an organization like this that is literally funding and training terrorists?"
Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant in February claimed that "dozens" of UNRWA staff were involved in the Hamas-led massacre which killed roughly 1,200 people, according to Fox News Digital.
Last month, Israel initially accused 12 U.N. Relief and Works Agency staffers of participating in the Oct. 7 massacre. In response, multiple countries, including the United States, at least temporarily, cut funding to UNRWA.
"I think we need to stand for the American people and stand for the safety and security of the American people and not have our tax dollars going to fund terrorism across the world," Steube said. "So I filed a bill, there's a companion bill in the Senate, that would not allow our tax dollars to be funded to them, and reroute that money to finish the border wall construction."
