India institutes 'total ban' on outdoor activity to slow coronavirus spread
Prime Minister Modi: 'To save India and every Indian'
India on Tuesday announced a three-week lockdown for its roughly 1.3 billion residents, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The order was announced by India Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will begin at midnight.
Modi, in an address to the country, called the order a “total ban.”
“To save India and every Indian, there will be a total ban on venturing out of your homes,” said Modi, according to the Associated Press.
India has a reported 469 coronavirus cases and 10 related deaths.
