Harvey Weinstein undergoes emergency heart surgery in New York
The former movie mogul's publicist Juda Engelmayer, and his prison consultant Craig Rothfeld, said Weinstein was rushed to Bellevue on Sunday night “due to severe medical conditions."
Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, who is currently serving time in prison on Rikers Island, underwent emergency heart surgery on Monday, his representatives said.
Weinstein has been in and out of Bellevue Hospital in New York City multiple times this year due to ongoing health conditions, and a case of COVID-19 in July. Weinstein was first sentenced to Rikers Island after he was convicted of sexual assault. However, an appeals court overturned his rape conviction in April.
The former movie mogul's publicist Juda Engelmayer, and his prison consultant Craig Rothfeld, said Weinstein was rushed to Bellevue on Sunday night “due to severe medical conditions."
“We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein had a procedure and surgery on his heart today,” they added, according to the Associated Press. The pair did not expand on Weinstein's current condition.
Weinstein, who is known for producing major films like "Shakespeare in Love" and "Pulp Fiction," will remain in New York pending a new trial in the rape and sexual assault cases. Prosecutors claimed last week that they are already presenting evidence to a new grand jury regarding three previously uncharged sexual assault allegations against Weinstein.
The jailed mogul has denied ever sexually assaulting, abusing, or raping anyone, but has already been convicted of rape and sexual assault in a separate case in California. After his new trial in New York, he will be extradited to California to serve his 16-year sentence.
