Haley defiant after projected New Hampshire loss: 'We are just getting started'
"South Carolina voters don't want a coronation. They want an election and we're gonna give them one," she said.
Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley on Tuesday remained defiant after former President Donald Trump was projected to win the New Hampshire Republican primary.
The Associated Press called the race for Trump shortly after the polls closed at 8:00 p.m. Haley, for her part, indicated she planned to go forward with her candidacy despite the loss and contended that her polling performance signaled growing support for her campaign.
"Well, I'm a fighter... and I'm scrappy... and now we're the last one standing next to Donald Trump," she declared. "And today, we got close to half of the vote. We still have a ways to go, but we keep moving up."
"It's time to put the negativity and chaos behind us," she went on.
"Our country's in a real mess... And the question is who's gonna fix it," Haley added. "With Donald Trump, Republicans have lost almost every competitive election. We lost the Senate. We lost the House. We lost the White House... the worst kept secret in politics is how badly the Democrats want to run against Donald Trump. They know Trump is the only Republican in the country that Joe Biden can defeat."
"You can't fix the mess if you don't win the election. I defeat Biden handily," she insisted.
Haley then highlighted the upcoming South Carolina primary and suggested that her record as governor in that state would bolster her efforts.
"South Carolina voters don't want a coronation. They want an election and we're gonna give them one. Because we are just getting started," she concluded.
